Simon White

Tumby Bay, South Australia 5605

Simon White’s memorial to the servicemen and servicewomen sits next to Tumby Bay’s war memorial and depicts the red poppies of the Flanders Fields battlegrounds during World War 1. Simon is from Gippsland in Victoria. He wants the viewers of his mural to feel as though they can walk into the scene. The ANZAC nurse depicted, Elfrieda Doepke, went on to become the matron at the Tumby Bay Hospital for 24 years. The Light Horseman is relevant to Tumby Bay as there is a group in the district dedicated to honouring the memory of the Battle of Beersheba.
On the wall facing away from the sea there is a painting of a dog. This is a local dog called Frankie. He is known by many in the community.
