Tumby Bay has a reputation for hosting colonies of Leafy Sea Dragons in the bay. We have several Leafy Sea Dragon artworks in our collection and have they been traditionally depicted on their side which is the easier way to paint them. Jimmy Dvate wanted to highlight the face and show the public a Leafy Sea Dragon face on. It is the face you need to concentrate on with this piece. The rest is just to fill the wall. The level of complexity has been hugely increased by taking this perspective. By looking closer, look at the eyes and you will see a living eye, which is the real heart of the piece. The interesting part is that this is a clever demonstration of how important the wall surface is in affecting the finished product. Look at the boarded up window – a flat hard surface. Jimmy has been able to achieve much greater detail than on the stone surface. This shows his skill as an artist to make this work. This piece has been all done with aerosols.
