Sofles

Tumby Bay, South Australia 5605

A Queensland based street artist, Sofles is one of the most well known street artists in the world due to his many YouTube videos which attract millions of viewers. He was given the huge task of painting a whole refrigeration unit (both Sides) in 3 days. Sofles’ trailer photo board is in the council car park. It is a mobile masterpiece on a refrigerated trailer belonging to Smith Haulage. This concept showed amazing trust and faith by this local trucking company allowing their brand new refrigerated trailer to be painted on both sides by a street artist. They didn’t know what he was going to paint which shows even more trust and faith. These pieces are not in Tumby Bay very often, but can be viewed all over Australia as it is towed as a part of a Smith’s road train. It could be seen in Darwin, Melbourne, Alice Springs, Roxby Downs, Adelaide or on the roads in between. It is eye catching and makes people wonder about the origins of the mural and then lead to thoughts about Tumby Bay. It was painted entirely with aerosols in 3 and a half days. There is so much detail, which shows the skill and ability of Sofles to swiftly work but add detail. Most of the artists have not had any formal training. Many artists were originally underground graffiti artists who have turned their life around and have made a good career from their skills.
The street artists have gone in to our school and spoken to students about the fact that you don’t need to be the cool kid, the footy or netball stars to achieve in life. They used their experiences to say they were the uncool, quirky kids, and now they are internationally recognised artists.
